South Australian Council Rate Rebate Scheme

Overview

This program aims to support eligible primary producers to assist with farm business related costs.

Rebates of up to 50% (and no more than $7,500/financial year) of ordinary council rates are available. This rebate applies to ongoing financial commitments associated with South Australian council rate payments.

Eligible applicants can access the rebate for each of the 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years, subject to available funding. Applicants will need to re-apply for each financial year.

Applicants may apply for the rebate on a quarterly basis, every six months or on an annual basis. Evidence must be provided that the South Australian local government rates notice has been paid.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must:
- Be in receipt of the Farm Household Allowance for the current financial year and can provide evidence of this. Evidence can include an income statement from Centrelink or a copy of the most recent concession card that identifies that the applicant is in receipt of Farm Household Allowance.
- Be directly associated with a farming business and the farming business is based in South Australia.
- Operate as a sole trader, partnership, trust or private company.
- Be a legal entity capable of entering into a Grant Agreement with the Minister and/or Delegate.
- Have a current Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST.
- Have not received funding from another South Australian/Australian Government program in respect of the same activities.

Eligible Activities

Eligible costs claimed under the program must have been incurred from 1 July 2019.

Restrictions

The following are ineligible for funding:
- Applicants who are:
a) In receipt of the Farm Household Allowance for the financial year relating to the Council Rates Notice for 2019-20 or 2020-21.
b) Not primary producers operating in South Australia.
- Rebates for South Australian Council Rates relating to:
a) Service charges
b) NRM levies
c) Fines and interest and arrears from previous financial years
